Activity: Rapid Re-design

Submitted by Jim Groom on Tue, 2007-02-13 13:03.

Introduction
The Kress Foundation (http://www.kressfoundation.org) will undergo a major redesign effort in next year. The site is primarily informational but it does contain a small, but impressive collection of works of European art. You can learn more at their mission here.

What’s Expected
Your group will be expected to create a rapid redesign of the Kress Foundation site. You can create wireframes, diagrams, mockups, prototypes, storyboards–whatever type of visuals that might help describe what your group has conceptualized. Time is short for this aptly named rapid redesign. You’ll have one class period to conceptualize your re-design and each group will make their presentation and take questions on Thursday, 2/15. Be prepared to explain your decisions. Why did you choose your approach? How do you think it will help the Kress Foundation meet its needs?I will “rate” each presentation based on the following criteria (in no particular order):

A. Innovation
B. Usability
C. Meeting the client’s needs
D. The group’s process and clarity of presentation
Total score, 1 to 10, with 10 being excellent.
More on the Proposed Project
The Kress Foundation needs a site with an updated look and a better user-experience. Currently, the site is difficult to navigate and the information is poorly presented. Currently, the wonderful artwork the foundation manages is buried and the functions of the “collection” are somewhat limited.
The Kress Foundation would like to have a site that showcases the work in the collection as well their own organization’s efforts. Strong informational needs must b balanced with the desire to better showcase their collection of artwork. Personalization, “viral” marketing, and methods for user-feedback would be considered a plus.
