This upper-level lab course offers a unique introduction to the world of the contemporary museum. Recent issues in the museum world center around emerging technologies that facilitate new ways of archiving, searching, and presenting information as well as allowing new possibilities for sharing, learning, and socializing in relationship to this information. Students will spend the first several weeks of class examining some of the issues at the heart of the “Museum Experience,” i.e., its mission as a self-paced, sociable form of teaching, learning, and experiencing information. Together, we will explore both the theoretical and practical side (often a false dichotomy) of virtual exhibit production, working collaboratively to design and produce a series of on-line exhibits. See more course details in the syllabus.
